Hello fellow PRSSAers. My name is Alex Bienkowski. I’m a senior PR major with an international studies co-major and the vice president of public relations for our chapter. This is my second year at WSU after transferring from Macomb Community College. I decided to go into PR during a short stint at Central Michigan University. I was going through what some refer to as a “transitional” phase, and I really had no idea what I wanted to do — to tell you the truth, I still don’t, but at least I’ve narrowed it down a bit. I just knew that math, science and the like were not for me.

After contemplating journalism and other majors I finally settled on PR. I like how much open opportunity there is in the field. With PR, you can find work in the corporate sector, for a non-profit, an agency, or just freelancing. Basically, PR gives you options, and I like options. I’ve always been a reader and a writer, so I figure if I can find my niche doing something that requires a good deal of right-brainedness then I’ll probably be OK.
In my spare time, I’m a percussionist, music buff, beer enthusiast, sports nut and all-around goofy guy. I’d love to find work in the music business, whether it be for a label, band, venue, festival, etc. I can also see myself working for a non-profit organization with a charitable mission. I just know that I want to be passionate about my work. If I can’t truly stand behind what I do, then there’s no point in doing it at all. I encourage all members to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, ideas or suggestions. I know I speak for all of us when I say we’re looking forward to a great year for WSU PRSSA.
