Death Before Decaf

By Taylar Kobylas

Although my love for coffee is equally attributed to being both a PR student and unofficial Italophile, I would still qualify it as nothing less than an obsession. A daily cup of joe is routine for most professionals and college students anymore, but there is a far wider range than just the fluff produced by Starbucks. There is a unique coffee to get you through any part of your day, any day at all.

So whether you’re a coffee addict like me or are just looking for a toasty yet tasty beverage to wake you up, here are ten delicious coffees worth the brew:

  1. Espresso– This 30 ml staple will power you morning ‘til night and is traditionally served cream free. (Photo credit)

  2. Ristretto– If espresso is a stronger option than you’d prefer, try this mini version. A typical ristretto is espresso concentrated to 22 ml and can be muted with sugar. (Photo credit)

  3. Iced Coffee– This unconventional option is a great one for afternoon meetings or a treat at lunch.  (Photo credit)

  4. Americano– A smooth blend of espresso and hot water, the Americano is a classic morning pick me up. (Photo credit)

  5. Latte– If you’re a novice coffee drinker, try a latte. Its heavy milk flavoring makes it a smooth blend to transition into. (Photo credit)

  6. Mocha– A mix of coffee, chocolate and steamed milk, this drink has a sweet side.  (Photo credit)

  7. Light Roast– Mild blend with hardly any taste of bitterness.  (Photo credit)

  8. Dark Roast– Pronounced bitter and acidic tastes. Most traditional in French and Italian varieties.   (Photo credit)

  9. Café au Lait– Combination of coffee and milk in a 1:1 ratio.  (Photo credit)

  10. Spanish and Irish Coffees– For the 21+ crowd, these specialty brews intertwine traditional java with whiskey, Kahlua and other liquors.  (Photo credit)
